David Seigle-Morris

The Ford Years 1963-1965
PAGE 2

These pages would not be possible without the help and guidance of David's wife, Susan Seigle-Morris and David's son, Kevin Seigle-Morris.

The 1964 season kicked off as usual with the Monte.  For this Rally I think David was partnered by Tony Nash.  There were 5 Cortina's entered for this event all using 1498cc engines and fitted with 2 DCOE Weber Carburettors and an extra fuel tank.  All 5 Cars were  finished in Red as opposed to the Safari cars which were finished in White.

Amusing story:  David went off the road and into a shallow ravine.  The car landed on top of another car and David clambered out to apologise to the other driver who pointed to the car below.  Somehow all 3 cars had gone off at the same spot and landed on top of each other!!!

David did the Acropolis Rally in a Cortina in 1964.

The Alpine was to prove to be a huge disappointment for David and his Co-Driver Tony Nash.  They were leading the Touring Car category outright until 20 miles from the finish when the engine cried "enough".  his car blew a cylinder head gasket.  Had they been able to make it to the top of the hill, about 5 miles, they could have coasted to the bottom and won the Rally.  If one looks closely at the press adverts, one can see that there are strategically placed smudges of mud on the number plate and the door signs as all the adverts had already been produced showing David and Tony as the winners.  David was driving no.28 Reg no. 892 DOO and Vic Elford, who went on to win, was driving no.29 Reg no. 893 DOO.
