Chris Says:
I didn't realise there are so many references to the Cortina. I
like the video. In 1988 I was driving a van with a low-loader behind
for a garage picking up crashes etc. One of the mechanics had put
this car together with different coloured doors, boot, bonnet but
it was absolutely solid. He sold it to me for £150.
The following Sat. when the boss was out, one of the painters put
two coats of blue paint on and baked it in the oven for £30.
So it looked like new. I drove it for 3 years, but on the third
MOT they showed me where the boot, headlights and bulkhead were
rotten and had to scrap it even though it looked immaculate from
the outside.
Two of the verses I'd already written about my now wife when we
lived in a flat. The rest of the song came when I met a pretty receptionist
near Morecambe Bay who I left a tape of my songs with and she phoned
me at work to say she really liked them. I bet 90% of my 130 songs
were inspired by such brief encounters. I recorded this version
a couple of months ago. |

I've had a longish acquaintance
with Cortinas MK 2 and 3, thanks to a family friend owning and driving
them in the late 70s and 80s, but the song came from an experience
a friend of mine had while we were both at uni. We were both partial
to the odd acid trip, and during one of these my pal kept remarking
how "70s" everything looked and continued to remind him
of 70s designs "like it was part of an old Ford Cortina"
as he said. This was some years ago But I nicked his Cortina hangup
quite an amusing flashback, considering) and exaggerated it into the
daft little tune that is Ux's "Cortina". |

Mark says:
" We actually released 2 versions of the song. One was called
"Cortinas" and was the b-side of our very first single.
The other one, with a much better sounding production, was on our
first album, and it's title was "Cortina Mk II" -- of
course!
Quote off: The Definitive Collection Album
"CORTINA" has always been a live favorite when we've played
gigs. I think it's amazing that it stood the test of time, especially
for a car from the 60s to still create a resinence for people now.
It's just a good fun track, and I think it's one of my favourite
songs that I've written. |

"I am MC Dubstar and I am an independant solo artist from
New Zealand who released 'Cortina' in mid 2004 the other guys pictured
in the video clip are friends of mine (Fujion Crew) and the bass
player is the actual bass player Billy Christian and producer for
the track.
I also wrote the video which clearly depicts the actual lyrics of
the song. The track was number 1 for 9 weeks on the Maori television
station in other words New Zealand loved it and was hoping that
through the internet the rest of the world could enjoy it as well." |

Leo Says
" I'd written the verses as a poem about the first girl I'd
fallen in love with as a young teenager.
I'm not sure exactly how the chorus came to us, but obviously the
title could easily have been 'First Love Stays With You Forever',
but we felt that this was a bit long and I'd liked the sound and
evocative nature of The Lambrettas' Cortina song and Tom Robinson's
'Grey Cortina' so we picked 'Red Cortina' out of the second verse.
It has always felt right since." |

Blue Cortina is very much about a first love when your young and

Charlie Says:
I never actually owned a Cortina but had a friend who lived, slept, ate and drank in his. That's how I came to write the song.
It was he who had the 'ladies begging him for a spin' so I just turned his fond memories into the song. |

Adam says:
"My Dad used to catch the train to London for work and
Mum used to get me and my two brothers into our Blue Cortina to
go and pick him up in the evening. That became the first line
of the song as it seemed to bring back all those memories. As
far as the song is concerned, it's really about the growing up
and the thank you to Mum and Dad, I suppose for making it happen
& always being there, you know it probably doesn't come across
in the song but it's what I think of when I play it. And it's
what I think of when I see or hear of a Blue Cortina."
